No startling visuals this time out and predictably, without one, the show drops off drastically. We get a tree falling on a guy, trapping him and another guy getting electrocuted. Not nearly as stunning as the stingray and anaconda.
The two cases are kinda boring. Worse, so are the major characters. Yes, they have some emotional baggage which brings them out to the jungle but no one's capturing our attention. No one's standing out the way that Meredith did on GREY'S ANATOMY. The show is missing that vital, central character that hooks us.
Without strong characters that we fall for, this show will die. Needs more dramatic conflict.

OFF THE MAP - Season 1.2 - SMILE. DON'T KILL ANYONE
It's GREY'S ANATOMY in a South American country that actually looks like Hawaii.
The pilot had a guy with a stingray attached to his leg. This episode has a guy with a humongous anaconda wrapped around his body. Those are great visuals but how many of these exotic medical emergencies can they come up with?
Episode fleshes out our main characters. So far, no one is really jumping out of the screen at me. Zach Gilford and Caroline Dhavernas don't have enough screen presence.
The bit about Cheech Marin as the village curandero is corny. Is he going to continually show up in this role?
The lush location helps but the show isn't about the outdoor scenery. So far, outside of the snake and stingray, the series isn't rising above the riffraff.

MODERN FAMILY - Season 3.6 - GO BULLFROGS!
Easily the best comedy on tv now. Their lowlights are better than 80% better than anything else on. Their laughs always have real emotion as a foundation. When we're laughing at the situations, we're laughing because they're familiar. The emotional truths are what draw us in. The characters are all memorable. They become our family because what they portray is our family.
Episode's about Phil taking Haley to a tour of his alma mater. Mitchell and Cam take Claire out for a night of fun because she's got a rare empty house. And Gloria's worried about Manny receiving a package that he doesn't want anyone else to know about.
The writing is top-notch. The jokes come fast and furiously. The acting is superb. The series is a classic, ranking with the all-time greats.

NEW GIRL - Season 1.9 - THE 23RD
Episodes about Jess breaking up with Justin Long because he tells her he loves her. Seems the relationship is moving too fast for her. That complication doesn't really ring true since Jess has been nothing but over the moon over him so far. They're exactly alike, matching quirky for quirky.
The show's a winner because we all should have friends like them. The laughs are plenty but there's a tenderness right underneath that's warm and inviting. It's easy to like the show and to follow the characters.
It won't be long now until Jess and Nick realize they're meant for each other which show bring about a whole new box of complications.
Hannah Simone is gorgeous. She needs her own series.

ONCE UPON A TIME - Season 1.7 - THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER
The thing is, when the flashbacks were employed on LOST to give us insight into the characters and to reveal their complexities, they worked because the characters were so interesting.
They're trying the same method here but it only serves to slow this boring series down further because the characters aren't compelling. I had no idea that the Sheriff was even a major character!
In this episode, we learn the Sheriff was a hunter in the fairy tales. With a pure heart and noble intentions, he always nailed his target. The evil Queen uses his skills to kill Snow White. He's unable to do so though and the Queen takes his heart for defying her order.
Big deal. Boring.
Again, this show doesn't have enough conflict to last this initial season. One character now realizes the kid is telling the truth. It won't be long till everyone does and then the series would be over, wouldn't it?
Let's hope this all takes place next episode so we can end this show forever.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - Season 1
How many vampire projects can there be?
I rolled my eyes when this was announced on the CW but have been pleasantly surprised by the episodes in Season 1. They bring new elements to the vampire tale which sets it apart nicely from the other shows/movies.
I like the elements of the magical rings. One allows vampires to walk in daylight. One allows its wearers to return from the dead after being killed by vampires. I like the vervain. It blocks a vampire's ability to erase your memory is worn and stops a vampire from drinking your blood if ingested.
I like Ian Somerhalder. He's the best thing in the series coming across like a young Rob Lowe, smirking and smoldering in his scenes. His qualities make the show interesting. He's a complex character.
Some plotlines are too easily resolved. The mysterious vampire in black that toys with Elena is killed off quickly after being set up to be a major villain. Alaric turning out to be helpful to the Salvatore brothers after it's revealed that he's come into town to kill them. The whole tomb of vampires that have been trapped for centuries. All these major plotlines quickly fizzle after capturing our attention.
Hopefully, the show will employ stronger writers for the next season.

CHEWIE is a thoroughly entertaining, highly enjoyable read. The pages flow. The scenes are dynamic. The dialogue is superb. The characters jump out at you. This is exactly what a screenplay should be.
The writers are amazing. Every single door in Hollywood should be opened for them. They are purebread pros and know exactly what they are doing.
Script tells the story of the making of STAR WARS with Peter Mayhew being the central character. Mayhew is toiling away, clearing bed pans in a hospital when he gets the job of Chewbacca. However, the pay's not great and the project is rather dubious, on the verge of collapse any minute.
Mayhew has to learn to follow his dreams and learns to take risk when he sees Lucas practically killing himself to complete the movie.
What a script! What a message!
It's a the kind of screenplay that immediately upon reading, you say to yourself, "Let's go make a movie!"
The script is that inspiring!
